US Retailer; Stone Fruit – Commercial Pilot 2013

The Opportunity

To reduce high waste levels, increase poor sales, and improve consumers’ perception of poor quality in stores.

The Approach

A 20 week period commercial pilot. Half of the retailer’s DCs had It’s Fresh! transit sheets in all RPCs of stone fruits, the other half were controls with a similar supplier mix.

The Outcome

The retailer’s Finance department analysed the data and advised that the reduction in waste and increase in sales justified investment in It’s Fresh!. There was additional support from store-level personnel commenting on the It’s Fresh! benefits in-store, including significant reduction in fruit flies and reduced time spent culling and throwing away spoiled stone fruit. Total roll out on Stone Fruit was initiated in 2014.
